FAQ
Is it really completely offline?
Yes! After download no internet connection is needed. The ExaOne model runs locally on your hardware. There are no API calls and no outbound connections.
What is ExaOne?
ExaOne is a large language model developed by LG AI Research. The model is made available by LG which means anyone can download and run it locally. Dr. Knowledge provides a user-friendly UI so you don't need to deal with configuring your own setup. Just unzip it and launch it!
How does it compare to ChatGPT?
For most everyday tasks (writing, studying, coding help) it works well. It has less parameters than than ChatGPT which means it won't be as capable with specialized tasks. Best of all it's private and free.
Will it work with only 8 GB of RAM?
Yes! The minimum system requirements call for 8 GB of RAM so that the model can be loaded into memory. 16 GB will give you more headroom, but Dr. Knowledge runs great at 8 GB.
Will you support other models?
That is planned for future versions. Currently we only support ExaOne. If there is a model that you would like to see included, please contact us at and let us know!
